Child abuse has almost always been identified with underdeveloped countries especially in South- East Asia. There are two aspects of child prostitution. One is the demand side and the other is the supply side. The demand for child prostitution emanates basically from perversion. This perversion again depends on lack of education and family and/ the social background, which distorts the moral code of the people, who come in its purview.
The supply of child prostitutes comes from poverty, homelessness, professional criminals, and syndicates who run brothels and profit from child prostitution. Kidnap and abduct young girls or lure them. Poverty is one major cause fuelling supply. A heavily distorted moral code also gives a fillip to the supply of child prostitutes. This is amply visible in countries like Bangladesh, Thailand and Vietnam.
Conflicts and war also create conditions in which children are sexually exploited. The supply of child prostitution can be curtailed by proper education to parents as well as children. The demand for child prostitution can be choked off with the help of education and counseling.
NGOs being local can play important role in this respect. They can also help in reforming distorted moral codes existing in their areas of operation. ( albawaba.com )
