Trapped between Two Walls

Trapped between Two Walls - A five-year-old boy found himself stuck between a rock and a hard place - literally - when he became trapped between two walls only 20 centimetres wide in northern China.
Xiao Yu was playing between the gap of two walls, which were narrower at one end, on Saturday when he became stuck between them in the Jiajie village of Taiyuan City in Shanxi Province, the Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said.

The young boy was unable to move his head and was crying in pain and fear, CCTV reported. His parents and neighbours tried in vain to help him out, but failed, and turned to local firefighters for help.

The firefighters rubbed his body with lubricant to protect him from scratches, before slowly inflating a heavy-duty mattress to widen the gap between the walls.

Chinese rescuers had to inflate a matress to free this boy

"We should inflate the mattress slowly, instead of widening the gap too fast," a firefighter told Xiao Yu, CCTV reported.

"Slow down, boy, don't look at me. Listen to what uncle tells you. When you are told to back off, you must do it slowly, don't go forward." After an hour, the wall was widened by a fraction and Xiao Yu was finally able to move his head.

"Great, son. You're so great, my son. Right, back off, and come to mum," his mother said. The boy was eventually able to inch himself out and into the arms of his relieved family. ( Sydney Morning Herald )
